Let’s digress for a while from the best boutique hotels in America and look at the most magnificent and comfortable hotels in France, and more specifically, we will make a small rating of hotels located on the “Road of the Sun”. If anyone suddenly does not know, this is such a route, along which they usually go to rest from the bustling Paris to the serene Cote d’Azur, by car. Let’s start with the Burgundian part of this road. So, where to sleep and dine in Burgundy?
1. Chateau de vault-de-lugny
Imagine a 16th-century Burgundian castle in a quiet valley. Well restored, but retaining all the charm of genuine antiquity (pictured a little higher and pictured a little lower).
It has 12 stunningly cool rooms. Royal beds, Persian carpets, antique armchairs, blazing wood in fireplaces… The vaulted, candle-lit dining room deserves special attention.
The staff is very kind. And around – extremely picturesque grounds, and ducks, hens and peacocks graze in the shade of the tower of an ancient castle. If you love wine, then by all means look into the Cote d’Or (especially the cellars). It’s Burgundy!
2. Chateau-hotel Andre Ziltener
A 10-room hotel stylized as an 18th-century setting. Around – the legendary vineyards, the village of Chambol-Musigny, next to the highway “Route des Grands Crus”. The hotel has an absolutely amazing wine museum, as well as a cellar where tastings are held, for a fee, of course. The rooms are bright, spacious and pleasant. In soothing cream and pale blue tones. I recommend staying in the Deluxe Junior or Full Suite.
3 Hostellerie de levernois
An exquisite sanctuary for gourmets. 16 wonderful rooms in a majestic white-stone villa, which is frozen in the middle of a park planted with cedars along the perimeter. Around the gardens-gardens-gardens. And yet – a pretty river overgrown with reeds. The best room is the Deluxe Garden Double.
However, they come here really mainly to eat well. Langostin with ham and truffles is divine. Oysters in lemon jelly are unique. And the roasted partridge… tender? No it’s not that. I can’t even find the right epithet for this taste. For some reason, only one Michelin star.
