August 2016
Just like last year, we wandered around the Şirnea area in August, around the Perseids, also then being our birthdays (mine and Silviu’s), which we chose to spend in peace and in nature. I wrote about last year’s experiences here. This year we stayed again for a whole week in Şirnea, during which we were visited by a young traveling family, on a road trip that started a few weeks ago in Berlin. We spent a few sunny days together but also a few rainy days, in which we made a fire at the mouth of the stove, even though it was only the middle of August :)).
Melanie and Josz travel with their 11-month-old daughter, Elsa, in a mobile home they set up and adapted to their own needs. So far, they have passed through Germany, Poland, Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova, Romania, and the way back home will be through other countries. Most of the nights they slept in the car, stopping in various places: at the edges of forests, lakes, fields, etc.
Melanie, whom I have known for about 12 years (but we haven’t met for 8!) is a lecturer at the Berlin University of Technology, where she teaches digital education and a consultant in the same field. Josz is a carpenter and built the entire back of their car himself – a kind of wooden caravan, clad in stainless steel. It took him 2 weeks to build everything, but he said, laughing, that in Germany it is considered a long time to complete something like that :).
Inside they have a mini-kitchen (with stove and fridge), two beds (one for the child), a small living room and various shelves for storing things. They also have solar panels installed, which provide them with the energy they need to charge their electronics and refrigerator.
During the trip, Elsa had started to take her first steps 🙂
I leave you a mini-photo report with this family below, so you can get a clearer idea of how they travel. We hope it inspires you!
