Homecoming

Travel Tips

I was lucky to be born in Kamchatka

All my friends and acquaintances know that for me there is no better place on Earth than my native peninsula, and a trip to Kamchatka is the most long-awaited event.

When I was 3 years old, my parents moved to Khabarovsk, which never became my home, even after 18 years spent there. During my childhood holidays, I always flew to my grandparents on the peninsula.

At the age of 10, with a group of tourists from Germany, I made boat trip along Avanchinsky bay and climbing Avachinsky volcano. It was then that I decided on what I would devote my life to. So I have been devoting it to tourism for 13 years.

At the age of 16, I again flew to Kamchatka. Just to work now. It’s the same with tour groups. An article about one of our trips, written by me at the age of 18, can be read here. I worked for a month and became even more convinced of the correctness of the decision made.

Life went on as usual – I worked for several years in Khabarovsk, lived for six months on Philippines, moved to St. Petersburg, but could not make another trip to Kamchatka. Of course there was a possibility. But, despite the fact that I was wildly drawn there, it was also interesting for me to visit new places, and having moved to live in St. Petersburg, I, as they say, got it – only in the first 3 months of 2014 I managed to visit 5 countries. But after 7 years, I felt that I needed to go home.

welcome home

Kamchatka met me with the sun. Cold October sun and snow-white home Koryaksky and Avachinsky volcanoes. It immediately caught my eye that the airport had not changed a bit – everything was in the same sad state. It is better to keep silent about the baggage claim point. But I didn’t expect things to change.

I was met by family friends and taken to my house, where I spent the best summer holidays when I was 16 years old. Instead of sleeping after a 9-hour flight, I went to the garden to help collect carrots, which made everyone very happy. This is exactly what I wanted – to be away from civilization and to take up physical work in order to unload the brain.

After 2 hours of cutting the tops from the root crops, I still went to bed. I slept only 3 hours and went to take a steam bath in the bathhouse, which my friends had already managed to flood. In addition to the steam room, my favorite dried Kamchatka flounder was waiting for me there.

The next bonus was the news that tomorrow I will go under the volcanoes with a mini-group. Fortunately, as an ordinary tourist. I was wildly delighted, because I didn’t even dream that I would be able to do something like that, because in October there are usually no tourists in Kamchatka.

practical information I share about travels in Kamchatka in separate article. In general, I can say that my native places and native people made my brain completely turn off.

Kamchatka has always been a special place for me. Having returned here 7 years later (that is, after the most eventful period of my life), I was convinced of this once again – Kamchatka is even cooler Iceland, her ocean is more impressive than the ocean on canary islands, the mountains are more picturesque than in Switzerland, and the people are generally out of competition.

If you want to order a comprehensive planning of your trip to Kamchatka or, on the contrary, learn how to organize your trips on your own, then you are here 🙂
